Stencil brushes are specialized brushes. Designed for stenciling, they have a flat tip rather than rounded, and are used with a 'dabbing' motion to apply paint or ink to the open areas of a stencil. Regular brushes are not as effective as they are designed to brush paint on, which can push paint under the edge of a stencil, and the head is rounded which causes the bristles to spread out when 'dabbing'. So get a set of 5 stencil brushes for a few bucks, and have the right tool for the job.

The bristles are made of hog hair.

Note that these stencil brushes are NOT suited for use with the very thick paint of Shiva Paintstiks. You need ones like Cedar Canyon Textiles sells with the very short very densely-packed bristles...

Nice set of brushes for a good price. There were a few strands that came loose with the big brush but wasn't a problem for the project I was working on.

At the moment I am not using them as stencil brushes but as brushes in general in my acrylic art work but I will also use them on my silk painting creations (not tried yet). Great brushes!

Great price for a nice set of brushes. I like the variety of sizes. These washed up nicely so will last for a long time.

The larger brushes are best. The smaller ones aren't as sturdy and lose fibers. For the price quality is great.
