Devore is a technique of creating “cut work” in fabric. It is amazingly easy to do and can yield elegant and satisfying results on the very first try.
A mildly acidic product Fiber Etch is used to draw a design on the fabric. it is applied with a squeeze bottle, brush or silk screen. It has the unique property of dissolving cellulose but leaving other fibers like silk untouched. So when you draw a design with Fiber Etch on Rayon/Silk blends, then rinse it out, the rayon is disolved leaving a “cut work” design where ithe rayon was.
Use it to create cut velvet, cut work on cotton & linen, and pulled thread work.
On 100% cotton fabrics the application of Fiber Etch dissolves all the threads where it is applied leaving holes. Futher techniques are then required to keep the fabric from falling apart.
