Sharpie Fine Point Markers have been around for decades. They are the "original" permanent marker. You have probably even used one at some point in your life. Permanent on almost any porous surface, including fabric, leather, wood, paper, and more. For heat setting the manufacture recommends placing the fabric in the dryer for about 15 minutes on high heat.

In using as an alcohol dropped color bleed create pretty flowers by keeping the color *dots* 14 inch apart work from center. Disposable plastic pipettes a small syringe or eyedropper offers more control... one drip at a time. Fun experimenting with your fabric in a hoop. Apply to dry fabric. Great for kids and adults.

I used black to make an outline on silk prior to dying. The dye held fast after heat setting but the black sharpie marker left spots on the silk. The black spots eventually washed out with much sloshing but the black outline had turned BLUE. Not a problem for me because I will just re-trace it after the silk dries but I thought others should be warned.

I didn't like these. They wrote great on my silks but after drying they still washed out when dye set and washed.

They work well on rough canvas and stretchy jersey (if you are careful) the colors hold up well to repeated washings. Sadly they fade with exposure to sunlight. I have a totebag that a couple of years ago was vibrant but now only traces of most of the colors are left. The black has held up reasonably well despite sunlight exposure.

performed wellbut bled so not appropriate for the signing of birthday banners. However I use markers a lot and they are really good for impressionist flowers and leaves.

dropping alcohol on a small spot of it spread and separated the color to a lovely pale bubble effect. None of the other colors worked as well.

Sharpies a classic however not my go-to for finely detailed (or washable) fabric art. Not as easy to write on stretch material as others and leave a bit to be desired after washing. Still good for touching up a very small spot or two though.
