Let's get started!
First, you'll want to pick out rocks that are fairly smooth. Rocks that have a lot of texture can make it hard for any images to show up nicely. Let the rocks speak to your creativity. Sometimes unusually shaped rocks are the most fun to paint.
Next you'll want to be sure to give those rocks a good cleaning with a little soap and water. Allow them to dry. At this time you can choose to use a pencil to sketch out your design on the rock.
Get your paint on!
Now it's time to have some color fun. Go ahead and grab a brush and start painting. You can be inspired by anything: animals, geometric designs, flowers, etc. Smaller rocks are great as table decorations, larger rocks can also be used as door stoppers or centerpieces in your garden.
Pro-tip: Some paint colors may not show up as vibrantly on your rock background. Mixing a little white paint into that color or painting the background white can help give your less than vibrant colors an extra boost! Below you can see one rock painted without a white background and another with white background.
Once the paint has fully dried, you can opt to spray the rock with a clear varnish sealant to help protect it. Rock on - now you're ready for outdoor fun!
