Featured Artist : Allison Powell Yo Llamas Artz

Hello! I’m Alli, the creator of Yo Llamas Artz. Here’s a bit about my journey: In 2009, while working as a taco cook at a local Mexican restaurant in Petaluma, I heard that Lagunitas Brewing Company was opening a taproom. I interviewed for a position and became a “Slinger of Suds,” joining the early days of the creation of the taproom. I started experimenting with reverse tie-dye on their merchandise and realized that tie-dye was my true passion. I pitched the idea to Lagunitas (special thanks to Ron), and they agreed to feature my tie-dyed items in their store. In 2011, I left my server job to become a full-time Wearable Art Tie Dye Artist. Since then, I’ve expanded my artistic skills and had three children, all while continuing to grow my business. I am deeply grateful to Lagunitas for their support and to my clients for their friendships and collaboration. A heartfelt thanks to my family and friends who have stood by me, and to Dharma Trading for featuring me as an artist, providing quality products, and offering invaluable advice.

What you make and what inspires you - I am constantly tinkering and creating, with a particular passion for tie-dye in all its forms. Everything in life influences my art—the struggles and uplifting moments both ignite my passion to create. Inspiration comes from observing nature—like the breeze through the trees and the way leaves flicker and branches sway. Recently, a hike along a winding gravel path with water flowing sideways sparked new inspiration. I’m deeply inspired by the opportunity to give back to the community through my partnership with a non-profit, creating tie-dye shirts for school sponsorships, and hosting tie-dye parties at schools. Blending creativity with community support brings me great joy, and these experiences truly enrich my work.
