Similar to Chiffon but an even lighter weight. An extremely sheer and delicate fiber with a very soft hand and floaty drape. Dyes and paints easily with great color retention. Very popular backing for Nuno Felting. Good for felted scarves, layered over heavier fabrics, ethereal set decoration, Halloween effects and more.
Because of its delicate nature, silk gauzes should be handled more carefully. Not recommended for clothing or accessories.
Fabric Details
- 100% Gauze Silk
- 3mm, 36", 45"and 55" wide
- IMPORTANT - use Fire Retardant on lightweight fabrics such as this when using for drapery, public installations or any kind of decorations! Not recommended for wearables except as linings or when felted.
- You can dye the white gauze with Acid Dyes
- You can discharge the black version of this fabric. Keep in mind discharge results do vary, and sometimes fabric will hardly discharge at all, so testing is very important. If one product won't work, sometimes another will.Discharge Instructions
- We found that this shrinks 14% in Length and 8% in Width disclaimer
- Available in cut yardage (bulk discounts levels at 10+ yds.) and 55yd bolts SG36, 55 yd bolts SG45, 52 yd bolts SG55, and 56 yd bolts BSG45
- Wash in any temperature water - while silk gauze can be machine washed, you will get maximum shrink that way. Because of the delicacy of a thin gauze like this, hand washing is probably preferable.
Remember, bolts vary! They can be over or under - we charge you for the actual yardage. If you need very specific yardage, order cut yardage.

Beautiful fabric like a light-as-air chiffon. Be warned that it is difficult to cut and sew (the loose weave will distort easily and it is fairly invisible) and it is also prone to snags so file your nails and keep it far from anything that might catch it!

I ordered three yards of the silk gauze to use as a wedding veil and I couldn't be more pleased with it! I love how wispy and filmy it is and it has a beautiful texture. I think "dreamy" would be a good word to describe it. Another bonus is that any little snags I got in the fabric smoothed out beautifully.

Oh so lovely and delicate and floaty! I picked up a yard of silk gauze with my last order just out of curiosity. I am thinking it will become trimveiling for a Victorian hat. It is just what you would expect a very lightweight loose woven sheer silk. A bit like chiffon only lighter and more delicate. BTW I would love to see Dharma carry more fabrics geared toward costumers such as heavier silk satin fine cotton bobbinet maybe a heavier silkwool blend. You guys are the gold standard of customer service and quality!

If you were ordering this to be used for sewing think again. You either need to have years of experience working with delicate fabrics or starch this fabric to a cardboard state. I can't use this fabric for what I was intending to make and the photograph does not even begin to touch on how thin this fabric actually is. This time it's my loss.

I used this fabric to make a sheer veil for a medieval costume. It worked very well for hand rolled seams and the fabric falls into very graceful folds. Beautiful!

I used this silk to make my wedding veil. It was gorgeous floating on anything of a breeze and pretty easy to work with. A really lovely choice. The one thing I would point out for anyone wanting to use it is that it stretches a lot along the bias even just under its own weight. Not totally a surprise for a loose weave like this but it was definitely more than I was expecting. It worked out fine for me but in some projects that might matter more.
