Soy/Organic Cotton Jersey 60"

Soy/Organic Cotton Jersey 60"

Sorry this fabric has been discontinued.

Apparently you can do anything with soybeans. Now we have some soy blend fabric: Part Soy, part Organic Cotton, with a touch of spandex for strength and stretch, this is a lovely and extremely soft jersey with a wonderful drape. One could call it stretch jersey, given the amount of stretch you get. Nice for woman's tops!

This is wonderfully soft fabric with a nice stretch. I am using it for underwear and will be using to make a pair of pants for an adult who is tactually defensive. It does slip a when being cut (typical of this type of Jersey) though not as bad as most. I would recommend cutting this Rayon twice the first time doing a gross cut to take the weight off the fabric and then a final detailed cut. Also try cutting it sandwiched between two pieces of paper using lots of pins or weights to eliminate the chance of the fabric moving while you cut. I found that sewing with some paper (I used butcher paper but tissue or tear away stabilizer paper might have been okay too) under the sewing line of the fabric helpful else my fabric got sucked into my sewing machine. plate. Be sure to use a stretch stitch or zigzag stitch. As always when using a stretch fabric us the proper "stretch" needle in your machine. Compared to the Model rayon jersey (rayon is simply a different animal) this cotton fabric has more body and therefore is a little easier to work with. If it is the first time you are sewing with a stretch fabric this one would be easy to work with and a good choice for a beginner. Be sure to order a sample before ordering a larger amount of this fabric to make sure you like the weight I happen to love this weight. This fabric is a little thicker than say T shirt fabric so choose your project accordingly. To reduce the chance that the fabric will shift on you while cutting try cutting it twice the first time doing a gross cut to take the weight off the fabric and then a final detailed cut. As always when using a stretch fabric us the proper "stretch knit" needle in your machine and either a stretch or zig zag stitch.

Very soft nice fabric. One thing I discovered is that the soy content does not accept fiber reactive dye. Dark or saturated colors are not possible. For soft muted medium-value hues it's great.

I have some of this fabric that I bought several years ago and had not done anything with it yet. I am playing with indigo right now and needed something else to dye so I stuck this in. The color is wonderful! I was interested to see another review that said this fabric doesn't take fiber reactive dyes well because it seems to take the indigo way better than cotton. Plus I got a more turquoisey blue rather than the blue blue I get on cotton. Interesting because supposedly soaking cotton in soy milk helps the fiber to absorb the indigo dye better (I have never tried that).. So I think this fabric is a really great one to use with indigo!
