Orvus Paste is used for scouring wool and delicate fabrics. Quilters and other fiber artists use it as a mild, pH neutral soap for textiles. As a pure detergent Orvus Paste does not contain bleaches, enzymes, fillers, brighteners or other chemicals that might affect textiles and the surfactants are biodegradable.
Be aware that if an acid is introduced into water containing Orvus, such as adding vinegar to the wash or rinse water, it can force the water's pH down to the point where Orvus chemically bonds to wool or silk fibers. Litmus (PH Testing Paper) is your best friend! Always have a few strips around when using natural dyes.
Orvus is sodium lauryl sulfate and there are health concerns out there regarding SLS; educate yourself and, as always, use protection when handling chemicals.
100 grams of Orvus Paste will scour up to 2000 grams (4.4 pounds of wool). If used as a washing agent, will clean more than twice that amount of fiber.
