Other stuff you need:
- Choose six or more 2 oz jars from our complete list of 130+ colors
- Large tables (card tables or picnic tables work)
- Plastic tarps to cover tables
- Buckets for the soda ash solution (plastic is best - 5 gallon is a nice size)
- Old newspapers (at least 6-8 weeks old-so the ink doesn't come off) to absorb the excess dye under the clothing being tie-dyed
- Bowls of water to rinse gloved fingers between colors
- Measuring cups - 2 cups or larger-clear pyrex works great
- Measuring Spoons and spoons for stirring the dyes
- Big jugs with TIGHT fitting lids to hold large amounts of pre-mixed dye if you have a really large group
- Funnel - to pour premixed dye solution into squirt bottles as folks use it up
- Paper towels and/or sponges to wipe up messes!
- Big garbage can or bags for trash
*If a color you choose has an * next to its name, you need to use the dye twice as strong, so it will dye half as many shirts, and if it has ** by its name, like Black does, you need to use 4X as much dye, so it will do a fourth as many shirts. You can buy extra 2 oz jars of those colors to supplement one of our pre-selected color sets if you need to here. Also, when in doubt, get a little extra - some colors are "denser" than others, so yield less when measured by volume (we sell the dyes by weight) to add to the water - conversely, some are "fluffier" and yield more. Some folks will just pour the dye on their shirts, others will apply it sparingly. So depending on the colors you choose, the size of the shirts or garments, and folks doing the tie-dyeing, 6 - 2 oz jars may or may not be enough. You can also email or call us if you need extra help estimating how much dye to buy.
