100% Linen, with the classic decorative single row of what is called "hemstitching" all the way around to form a nice border. Linen is more absorbant than cotton and takes much more wear and tear - heck, we're talking heirloom here. It is also far less of a strain on the environment to produce linen than cotton, and to use cloth rather than paper napkins. Need we say more?

Measurements BEFORE shrinkage:

Napkins are approximately 22" x 22" including 2" hem all around.
Placemats are approximately 14" x 20" including 1" hem all around.
Runner is approximately 20" x 59" including 1" hem all around.

Measurements AFTER shrinkage:

Napkins are approximately 21" x 21" including 2" hem all around.
Placemats are approximately 13.5" x 19" including 1" hem all around.
Runner is approximately 19" x 56" including 1" hem all around.

Pressing tips: Higher Linen setting, use steam. Spraying lightly first helps with creases.

Stock may be sewn with poly thread.

The napkins are exquisite and the table runner is fine but the placemats are kinda pointless so my star review would actually be 5 2 4 if they were listed as separate items. The placemats are single ply and too small to serve much purpose. They aren't thick enough to absorb spills nor to protect from heat transfer and linen would require ironing for something that has to lie flat like that so they're profoundly impractical. The table runner suffers the same problems but it is more of a decorative item so the features aren't really flaws in that case. The napkins are great though! Linen softens up nicely after a few trips through the wash and dry and the fibers pull colors through the capillary effect giving the interaction between color field and negative space all sorts of great possibilities! We'll be giving out sets of napkins this year. Placemats not so much.
