Featured Artist : Guerilla Prayer Flags

Artist Bio / Statement
We are a work project in Juarez, Mexico, a community all but destroyed by drug war violence. All of the proceeds from our work go directly to the families that make these prayer flags, several of whom have children with special needs who have little other chance for employment.
We knew nothing about how to go about dying fabric to make prayer flags before beginning this project six years ago, and learned almost everything we know from the friendly staff in Dharma customer service. Our project is going great thanks to the vibrant colors we are able to achieve using Dharma fabrics and dyes.
We use Poplin 60 cloth, which provides enough thickness so that our prayer flags do not 'scrunch up' in the wind (bunch up at one end of the string). This fabric also provides enough weight for each panel in the prayer flag to spin on the string in the wind instead of winding up around the string. We experimented with lighter fabrics but this medium weight poplin is really ideal for us.
We use exclusively Dharma Fiber Reactive Dyes, and have over a hundred 5 star reviews, virtually all of them complimenting our "brilliant colors".
This project is now supporting half a dozen families!
Thank you, Dharma Customer Service People, for all your kind assistance in the success of this project!
