Habotai Silk 8mm 45" wide is now available in about 30 colors! Why? Because not every canvas has to be white.
The Natural White Silk 8mm Habotai is a great silk fabric for dyeing and painting. When they say "China Silk" this is what they mean. Light weight and semi-sheer with a lovely moderate sheen. It also happens to be very economical so it is great for students and class projects. Everyone likes this stuff; you will too. The 8mm is the one most often seen, and of which our Habotai scarves are made. We also carry heavier weights (10mm-16mm) for when you need more substance, and a lighter more sheer weight (5mm).
Full bolts of HS836 runs about 55 yards long.
Full bolts of HS845 runs about 53 yards long.
Full bolts of HS855 runs about 85 yards long.
Full bolts of BH845 runs about 52 yards long.
Please note: Colored swatches vary from monitor to monitor and may not exactly match actual fabric. There may be slight variations in fabrics from dyelot to dyelot. This is normal. Samples are available. These fabrics are dyed with Acid Dyes, and should be washed in cool to lukewarm water or dry cleaned. Dyed fabrics can bleed! Pre-washing or treating the fabric with something like our Dharma Dye Fixative is a good idea if you want to ensure that there is no dye bleed.
Discharging: Several folks have been asking if the new colors discharge. Since they are new, we haven't tested them yet, but we will be, with Discharge Paste and with DeColourant. But what we can immediately say on the subject, which any discharge artist should know, is that all colors are going to vary, from discharging to almost white, to nothing, and some will simply lighten, while others will change color. Your results will also depend on the discharging chemical you use. All of them are safe on silk EXCEPT BLEACH. So when results need to be a certain way, you MUST TEST! Discharging can often be unpredictable. We will publish a list of our results in a few weeks.
