100% Pure Eucalyptus Oil, distilled from the leaves of the eucalyptus globulus tree, is commonly used as a fragrance and for its many medicinal and antibacterial properties but Jacquard has another use in mind.
Henna and Jagua body art! The natural solvents present in essential oils help produce darker stains from these natural dyes.

Warning: Eucalyptus Oil is Flammable so keep away from open flame. This is intended for external use only, keep away from children and avoid contact with eyes. Some folks have a sensitivity to essential oils so be sure to always test a small area before starting your designs.

Check out the instructions tab for more info on how to mix up some fun with henna or jagua!

Jacquard Jagua Mix Instructions

How to make approximately 1.5 fluid ounces of Jagua ink:

  1. Mix 1.5 tablespoons water with .5 tablespoon Jagua powder until smooth. Wait 10 minutes to let the mix settle and combine.
  2. Mix in .5 teaspoon essential oil of your choice; cajeput, lavender, eucalyptus, tea tree, just be sure that it is oil intended to be used on skin! After mixing in the oil wait another 10 minutes for the ingredients to settle and combine.
  3. Apply to the skin and allow to dry completely (usually takes about 30 minutes) before removing.
  4. Remove the dried jagua from the skin and rise the area with cold water.

Your Jagua design will be very faint at first but it will darken over a 24 hour period. Designs usually last between one and two weeks depending on location and how often the area is washed. Rough skin tends to dye darker than smooth skin but areas like hands are washed with greater frequency so are prone to lighten faster.

Note: The mixed Jagua ink will keep for at least one month before losing it's potency. Refrigerate or Freeze to extend it's shelf life.

If you're prone to allergies or have sensitive skin, do a small test and wait a day before trying anything larger.

Jacquard Henna Instructions for Body Art

Instructions for Henna Body Art mix:

Using 4 ounces of henna, about 28 ml of essential oil, distilled water, and two tablespoons of sugar (helps the henna to stick better):

  • 1. Mix your dry ingredients together in a bowl or mixer
  • 2. Add water and mix until a very thick paste is formed. It will be a bit lumpy at this point. You will be thinning out the henna a little later
  • 3. Cover with some plastic wrap to let the mixture absorb the liquid for 15 minutes or so.
  • 4. Add more water to thin the mixture a bit, and add your essential oils. Mix well. Cover again and let sit for an hour or so.
  • 5. Mix your paste until all the lumps are gone. It should be sticky and a bit like mucus (Yum!).
  • 6. The easiest way to get the paste from the bowl into an applicator bottle is to put it in the corner of a plastic bag (like a sandwich bag), snip the tip and fill your applicator bottle!
  • 7. Leave henna on skin as long as possible (up to 12 hours for the best results) for a long-lasting, dark design (3 hours of set time usually results in a dark, solid color). If you plan on going to bed before removing the henna paste, cover the area with plastic wrap to protect the design and avoid staining your bedding.

A note on Essential oils: Tea tree, cajeput, and lavender essential oils are all affordable and easy to find, with lavender being the best for sensitive skin. Most eucalyptus on the market is low in terpenes (element that darkens the henna and causes it to stain better) and, while it is not a bad choice, it may not last as long and or stain as darkly as some other essential oils.

If you don't plan to use your henna on the same day, freeze the remaining mixture and use it as needed.

If you're prone to allergies or have sensitive skin, do a small test and wait a day before trying anything larger.
