Featured Artist : Marionette | Painting Paradise
Living on a lush, tropical island in the center of the Pacific Ocean is an artist's dream-come-true! I live on the island of Kauai and own my own studio, Painting Paradise, in the small town of Waimea, where I teach art classes. Every Thursday from 2 to 5 p.m., I teach my popular silk painting class to tourists and locals who wish to discover this luxurious medium. I use Dharma's 30"x30" silk habotai scarves, Dye-Na-Flow silk paints, sumi brushes, and Pebeo water-based gutta to create my colorful scarves. I also use pure Hawaiian sea salt to make the wonderful designs in the background. My designs come from the beautiful inspiration around me: tropical flowers, turtles, whales, koi fish, and colorful roosters to name a few.
I learned silk painting years ago from my good friend, mentor, and fellow artist, Lee Vanderwalker. We both lived in Michigan and had neighboring art studios in an old historic building. She dreamed of moving to Belize, and I had my heart in Kauai. In 2001, the building burned down in a tragic fire. In a month, Lee moved to her tropical paradise. It took me a few more years, but in 2004 I made the move to Kauai and have never looked back since!
