Artist Bio / Statement
I am a textile artist living in Central Utah. I use shibori techniques and natural dyes. There are endless varieties of patterns and techniques that can be done with shibori, so I never tire of it. I started doing shibori about ten years ago, and I quickly found that Dharma Trading Company was the best resource for a lot of the materials I needed. I use their Pre-Reduced Indigo and natural dyes. I also collect plant dye stuff near my home. I use rabbitbrush, sorrel, juniper, etc. The natural dyes produce the most vibrant colors on protein fibers, so I dye a lot of silk scarves that I buy from DTC.
I make and dye; scarves, wall hangings, decorative pillows, bags, face masks, quilts, etc. I love creating. I am inspired by my surroundings, by the designs and patterns in nature, by my family, and by other textile artists. I encourage anyone to try making something that is unique. I believe creating it is an important part of life -- and makes us feel alive.
